How many players can be retained?

The IPL has a rule for releasing an annual retention list. Therefore, the question arises as to how many players a team can retain. All franchises had the opportunity to form teams for a three-year cycle. The upcoming auction will be a mini-auction. According to media reports, there is no limit on this.

This means that any team can retain any number of players. Players who are not retained are purchased through bidding in a mini-auction. Their minimum and maximum base prices are set. Live streaming of the IPL retention auction will be available on the JioHotstar app and website.

When will the mini-auction be held?

The mini-auction for the 19th season of the Indian Premier League 2026 is expected to take place in December. It is likely to take place in the third week. However, the date has not yet been officially confirmed. Meanwhile, the BCCI is considering holding the event outside India, with the UAE being considered as a possible venue.
