The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a major feature for Aadhaar cardholders. Anyone can now update their Aadhaar card address online in a very simple way. UIDAI has not only simplified this process but also made it completely user-friendly. Importantly, this service for updating Aadhaar addresses will be completely free until July 14, 2026.
With this UIDAI facility, people will no longer need to visit Aadhaar service centers. Address changes can be made online in just a few simple steps. However, updating information such as name, date of birth, and biometrics will still require an Aadhaar service center.
Process to Update Aadhaar Address Online
Those wishing to change their address must visit the UIDAI’s official website. Go to the “Document Update” section on the website, enter your Aadhaar number, and log in using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number. After logging in, select the “Address Update” option. You will then be asked whether you want to change your address based on supporting documents or choose the “Head of Family” (HoF) option.
After filling in the required information, upload a valid address proof and submit the form. Upon completion, you will receive a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN). This number is used to track the status of your application. UIDAI typically takes up to 30 days to complete the address verification process.
How to Track Update Status
According to UIDAI, the address update process can take up to 90 days from the date of application submission. To check whether your address has been updated, visit the UIDAI website and select the “Aadhaar Update Status” option. You can check the status by entering the URN or Aadhaar number and then verifying the status through OTP.
