How to File a Dispute on a Wrong Challan Online

The government has provided a dedicated option on the e-Challan Parivahan website to challenge a wrong challan.

You need to visit the e-Challan Parivahan website. Find your challan by clicking on ‘Get Challan Details’. Next, you’ll need to select the ‘Raise Dispute’ option. You’ll now need to clearly state the reason for filing the dispute.

For example, you can cite an incorrect vehicle number, incorrect photo evidence, or a duplicate challan. After providing the reason, you’ll need to upload supporting evidence. This evidence can be photos, GPS logs, dash cam footage, or parking receipts, anything that proves your innocence. Finally, fill in your contact information and submit. The relevant traffic department will then begin a thorough investigation of your complaint.

Post-Complaint Process

After filing a complaint, you receive an Acknowledgement Number, which allows you to check the status of your complaint. The officials then review the evidence and the complete information you provided. If they determine that the challan is indeed incorrect, they may cancel it.

Consequences and Time Limits

However, if the challan is found to be correct, you must pay the fine within the stipulated time. In some cases, you may be summoned to present documents or to a hearing. If you fail to appear by the stipulated time, the challan is automatically considered correct, and the fine may be increased.

Very Important Precautions

When filing a complaint, it is extremely important to preserve screenshots and copies of any documents, photos, or evidence you upload. These records will be useful if the officer later asks for confirmation or if there is a technical glitch in the system.

Keep in mind that providing incorrect or false information may result in legal action against you, so submit only accurate information. If you prefer, you can also file a complaint on your state’s traffic police website or, if necessary, pursue the matter through the Lok Adalat.
