Former Australian captain Steve Waugh has sharply criticized the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He says that there is no player in current cricket who cannot be replaced. Whether Rohit and Virat will play in the 2027 World Cup remains a challenging issue for the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar. With strong batting performances in the ODI series against Australia, both senior players have staked their claim to play in the World Cup in two years.
Should India consider Virat and Rohit for next T20 World Cup?
While talking to an Indian journalist, Steve Waugh said, “Players have to take responsibility and understand that no player is bigger than the game. You cannot consider yourself bigger than the game. Anyone can take your place. I believe that no player can run the game as per his own wishes. Ultimately, the chairman of the selection committee has to take decisions for the betterment of the team.”
Ajit Agarkar has stated that legendary players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma cannot be put on trial. However, according to media reports, BCCI officials say that the team for the 2027 World Cup will be selected solely on the basis of performance.
Rohit Sharma scored 202 runs in the ODI series against Australia, earning him the Player of the Series award. Virat Kohli, meanwhile, showed signs of returning to form with his 74-run knock in the final ODI. Based on this performance, he has staked a claim for a World Cup berth.
Advice for Ajit Agarkar as well
Steve Waugh further said, “I hope the players have a good relationship with Ajit Agarkar, but at the same time he will have to maintain a proper distance from the players. It is very important to maintain coordination with experienced players.”
