FASTag New Rule: The central government has made a major change for motorists traveling on national highways. By amending the FASTag rules, the government has taken steps to encourage online payments. Under the new rules, vehicle owners passing through toll plazas without a FASTag will now pay 25 percent less toll fees if they pay using UPI. This change has been made under the National Highway Fee Rules, 2025, and will be implemented nationwide from November 15th.

Digital Transactions Will Get a Boost

Previously, vehicles without a FASTag had to pay double the prescribed toll fee if they paid in cash. For example, if the toll fee at a toll plaza is ₹50, FASTag users will pay only ₹50, while drivers without a FASTag are charged ₹100. However, if the same driver pays using UPI, they will receive a 25 percent discount. This means that instead of ₹100, he will have to pay only ₹75. This decision was taken with the aim of reducing cash transactions and promoting digital means.

New rules will come into effect from November 15th

The government has announced that the new rules will come into effect from November 15th, 2025. This change will not only make the toll payment process more transparent but will also provide a better experience for passengers. This initiative strengthens the government’s vision under the Digital India Mission, which emphasizes making every financial transaction in the country digital.

Special convenience for passengers

This government decision will provide greater convenience to passengers during their travel. There will no longer be a need to stand in long queues for cash payments. Payments made through UPI will speed up the process and facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles at toll plazas. This will also reduce travel time and reduce traffic congestion.

Digital payments will be monitored

Adopting a digital payment system will increase transparency in toll collection and improve administrative monitoring. UPI-based payments are secure, and every transaction is automatically recorded digitally. This will also help curb issues like corruption or misappropriation.

Toll System Designed to Be Special

NHAI is continuously working to modernize the toll system. This move is part of the government’s efforts to implement a cashless and fully digital toll collection system across the country in the future. The UPI payment facility is not only beneficial for travelers, but it also provides an efficient and transparent solution for toll management.
