Tatkal Ticket Rules: The Railways has announced significant changes to the Tatkal and reserved ticketing system. This step was taken after numerous complaints that some ticket brokers were charging extra fees from passengers through their network. According to reports, these brokers would book tickets by having their associates stand in line and then charge passengers ₹500-₹600. This was causing inconvenience to ordinary passengers. Now, the Railways have resolved to end this practice.

Mobile Number Will Be Mandatory for Passengers

Under the new guidelines, it will now be mandatory to include a mobile number on the ticket form. The booking clerk or center superintendent will verify the mobile number before accepting the form. This number will also be checked by the Railway Protection Force to immediately detect any suspicious activity. This will significantly reduce the possibility of obtaining tickets under pretenses.

Tickets will only be issued for yourself or your family

Instructions issued by senior railway commercial managers state that ticket forms will only be issued to passengers who are traveling themselves or booking tickets for a family member. Tickets will not be issued for anyone else by citing acquaintances or fictitious relationships. This step will ensure that only those with genuine needs receive tickets.

RPF Deployment at Every Booking Counter

Railway Protection Force deployment has been made mandatory at ticket booking counters. The RPF will maintain constant vigilance so that any ticket touts can be caught on the spot and action can be taken against them. This system will help maintain discipline and transparency at ticket centers.

Finance Savings for Passengers

The new system will provide direct financial relief to passengers, as they will no longer have to pay an additional ₹500 to ₹600 to touts. The Railways claims that this will facilitate easy ticketing for ordinary passengers and make the Tatkal ticketing system transparent.
