The Indian team has not received the trophy even 34 days after winning the Asia Cup 2025. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia provided the latest update on the matter, stating that despite the impressive victory over Pakistan in September, the trophy is still in the possession of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi.

After the final, the Indian team refused to accept the trophy directly from Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). As a result, Suryakumar Yadav and the other Indian players returned to the hotel without the trophy. Naqvi later stated that the Indian team could collect the trophy from the ACC office in Dubai, but he also expressed his desire to hand it over personally.

Strong comment from BCCI secretary

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said, “We are somewhat unhappy with the way the trophy hasn’t been delivered to us even after a month. We are pursuing this matter. We wrote a letter to the President of the Asian Cricket Council about 10 days ago, but there has been no change in their stance. The trophy is still in their custody, but we hope it will reach the BCCI office in Mumbai within a day or two.”

“On behalf of the BCCI, we are fully prepared to handle this matter and I can assure the people of India that the trophy will return to India, though the timeframe is unclear. But one day it will.”

What was the matter?

The Indian cricket team refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi after winning the Asia Cup, but Naqvi insisted on handing over the trophy himself, even then the Indian team players did not agree. In such a situation, Naqvi got angry and left from there and took the trophy with him. Later, such reports also came that he had the trophy locked in a room in ACC. During the Asia Cup, a lot of tension was seen between the Indian team and the Pakistani team. Indian players did not even shake hands with the Pakistani players and there was even a fight between the players on the field.

Naqvi stands firm on his stand

Mohsin Naqvi remains adamant that the trophy can be returned to India, but he will present it himself. The BCCI has officially requested the trophy be returned, but Naqvi is reportedly sticking to his stance and suggesting that Indian players receive it in person at a future event, as no formal resolution has yet been reached.
