Birth of Black Bullet
Indian Motorcycle chose renowned custom bike builder, Jeb Scolman, for this unique project. The company gave Jeb complete freedom, with only one condition – the bike’s heart had to be the Indian Scout engine. And that’s where the Black Bullet’s journey began. Jeb took that powerful Scout engine and built a monstrous machine around it that would leave onlookers breathless. This bike was specifically designed to be showcased at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, from July 31st to August 8th, 2015. But after Sturgis, it had another mission – to race on the unforgiving terrain of the Bonneville Salt Flats to test its speed.
Design
Just looking at this bike will leave you speechless. Its design is inspired by the speed bikes of the 1950s and 60s, those machines that cut through the air with only one goal – speed. The first thing that catches the eye is the bullet-shaped fairing at the front. This fairing is mounted directly on the bike’s forks, giving it a very aggressive and sharp look. The entire frame of the bike is very basic and simple, as if all the focus is solely on speed.
Features
Its power cannot be judged by looks alone. The riding position is extremely aggressive. The tight clip-on handlebars and footrests mounted on the rear axle force the rider to always ride lying flat on the bike’s tank. This position is perfect for minimizing wind resistance and achieving maximum speed. Another interesting fact is that this bike has no braking mechanism on the front wheel! This proves that this bike was built for only one purpose – to achieve incredible speed on a straight road.
Engine and Performance
The true power of the Black Bullet lies within. The same reliable and powerful engine from the Indian Scout forms its heart. But Jeb Scolman used a custom-made intake manifold to make it even more formidable. This allowed the throttle body to be mounted sideways, making the engine packaging even tighter and more compact.
