Rohit Sharma has proved that age is just a number. At the age of 38, with his brilliant batting against the home team Australia, he claimed up the ladder of ICC ODI batter’s rankings.

Following the India vs Australia ODI series, the ICC has released new rankings. Even though Team India lost the series, losing the first two matches, Rohit Sharma has reached the number one spot in the ICC ODI rankings. This achievement is even more significant for Rohit Sharma because this is his first time holding the number one spot in the rankings. Previously, he had reached the second spot but narrowly missed the top spot. However, this time, he made no mistakes and managed to secure the top spot.

Rohit Sharma becomes the oldest player to top the ICC rankings

Now Rohit Sharma has become the oldest player to reach the top of the ICC rankings. Earlier this record was in the name of Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin Tendulkar had topped the ICC rankings in the year 2011 when he was 38 years and 73 days old. If we talk about Rohit Sharma, he has occupied the number one position in the ICC rankings when he is 38 years and 182 days old. The only difference between Rohit and Sachin is that Rohit has achieved this position in ODIs, whereas Sachin had achieved the number one position in the Test rankings in the year 2011.

Rohit could not top even in the year 2019

Interestingly, in 2019, Rohit Sharma had his first century in a row. The ODI World Cup was underway at the time. After scoring consecutive centuries, Rohit Sharma’s ICC ODI rankings reached 882, but even then, he hadn’t reached the top spot. Now, his rating is 781, yet he remains at the top. Interestingly, there’s a significant gap between the first and second positions. At second is Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran, whose rating is 764. This means it’s safe to assume Rohit Sharma won’t be losing his top spot anytime soon.
