Do you want to earn Rs 88,000 per month by taking care of children at weddings? Wedding nanny services are becoming quite popular these days. A wedding nanny simply takes care of children at weddings. Although this culture is not as popular in India yet, there is a huge demand for wedding nannies in America. Sandra Weir of New York calls herself a wedding nanny, meaning a nanny who takes care of children at weddings or big events so that the adults do not face any problem in enjoying the party. Sandra charges around $1,000 a day, or approximately Rs 88,000, for this job.
How did this unique business start?
Sandra had been babysitting for 11 years. But in 2024, when she was assigned to care for four children at a wedding, guests asked if she offered childcare at such events. That’s when she launched her service, Wedding Nanny NYC. Now, her team arrives in black T-shirts emblazoned with her brand logo and handles games, crafts, storytime, and sleep routines for the children, all while allowing parents to enjoy the wedding without worry. How much is the fee and what does the team do?
Sandra’s service starts at $1,000 (approximately ₹88,000), which covers 12 hours of on-site childcare. For larger groups, she sends a team of up to four nannies, charging $65 (approximately ₹5,800) per hour for each additional nanny. Sandra explains that before every event, she talks with the family to discuss the children’s safety, allergies, temperament, and preferences so that the children feel part of the event.
Nanny culture in India?
The practice of nannies or babysitters for childcare is not new in India. This tradition exists in wealthy families, where nannies provide childcare. The only difference is that this practice is now being conducted in a professional and organized manner. The demand for nannies has increased significantly among working parents, especially in metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. While grandparents or relatives used to care for children, trained nannies and Japa caregivers are now fulfilling this role.
The childcare industry in India was worth around Rs 83,600 crore in 2024 and is expected to cross Rs 1.21 lakh crore by 2033.
What are the challenges in India?
While nanny services are growing rapidly in cities, people in smaller towns still rely on relatives or trusted domestic help. Safety concerns and strict regulations in this area are why this isn’t as prevalent in India.
