The Indian SUV market is set to be stirred once again, as Renault India has officially confirmed the return of its iconic SUV, the Duster, to India. The company has stated that this SUV will be launched on Republic Day, January 26, 2026. Duster Launches the SUV Segment
When the Renault Duster was launched in India in 2012, the SUV market was limited to limited options. With its simple yet powerful design and affordable price, the Duster ushered in the mid-size SUV segment. This SUV was neither too big nor too small, offering a balanced option for Indian families. The starting price was around ₹7.95 lakh, making it one of the most affordable SUVs of its time. In 2014, the company also launched an all-wheel drive version, but it was discontinued in 2020 due to the new BS6 emission norms.
Preparing for a Strong Return After Five Years
After nearly five years, Renault plans to introduce the Duster in an all-new avatar. The company recently released a teaser, which has further fueled excitement among SUV enthusiasts. The new Duster will return to Indian roads with a completely modern design, advanced technology, and improved performance.
New Duster Based on Third-Generation Model
The new Duster will be based on the third-generation SUV from Renault’s global partner, Dacia, which launched internationally in 2023. Since the second-generation model never arrived in India, this SUV will return directly with its third version. Renault has developed a comprehensive strategy this time around, keeping market requirements in mind, ensuring the Duster becomes a popular name once again.
The new model will be built on the CMF-B platform
The new Duster, based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s modular CMF-B platform, is being developed for India with localization. The aim is to keep production costs low and pricing competitive. This platform will also be used in the future Nissan Tekton SUV.
A bolder and more attractive design than before
The new Duster will appear bolder and more stylish than ever while retaining its classic rugged look. A new front grille, modern bumper design, and Y-shaped LED headlights give it a premium look. Wider wheel arches, larger alloy wheels, and body cladding will further strengthen its off-road credentials.
The cabin will have premium features
The company is focusing especially on the Duster’s interior this time. The overseas version features a dual-tone dashboard, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Indian model is expected to feature premium features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, auto climate control, and an Arkamys 3D sound system. Soft-touch materials and improved ergonomics will make it more comfortable than ever.
Engine and Performance
Although the company hasn’t revealed engine options, the new Duster is expected to be offered with a choice of petrol and hybrid engines. It could be offered with a 1.0-liter turbo petrol or a 1.3-liter turbocharged unit. The SUV could also share engine and mechanical components with the Nissan Tekton. A three-row version of the Renault Duster is also under development, sold as the Bigster in foreign markets.
Major Upgrades in Safety and Technology
The new Duster will also see significant improvements in safety. Like the global version, the Indian model is also expected to feature ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). Additionally, features like multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, electronic stability control, and a robust body structure are expected to be standard.
