For the betterment of the service for the passengers, Indian Railways has changed their many rules and system again and again. This time too, they have taken a massive step to upbring the level of the service. With this new initiave, passengers will get more better service during their journey.
What are the new updates?
After 18 years, Indian Railways has made a major change to its ticketing and fare rules. The most significant change will be in the ticket booking process, where only Aadhaar-linked and authenticated users will be able to book tickets online within the first 15 minutes of booking. This rule will come into effect on October 1, 2025. Its purpose is to reduce the influence of middlemen and agents in ticket booking, directly benefiting ordinary passengers.
What will be the benefits
The ticket booking system will also be replaced by a new and modern Passenger Reservation System (PRS) by the end of 2025. The new system will have a booking capacity of 150,000 tickets per minute, approximately five times the current capacity.
Ticket enquiry capacity will also be increased from 400,000 to 4 million per minute. This will make booking tickets through the website and app faster and easier. The new system will incorporate several advanced features during ticket booking, such as a multilingual interface, preferred seat selection, and a fare calendar, as well as special facilities for the disabled, students, and patients. Changes have also been made to Tatkal ticket booking. Aadhaar-based OTP verification is now mandatory for Tatkal ticket bookings from July 2025.
This will prevent the misuse of bots and fake accounts in ticket booking. This system will ensure faster and easier ticket booking for passengers. The Railways has also revised fare regulations, effective July 1, 2025. Fares for non-AC mail and express trains have increased by 1 paisa per kilometer, and for AC trains by 2 paisa per kilometer. However, there are no changes to suburban trains and second-class passenger fares for distances up to 500 kilometers.
