New Delhi: Troubles have increased for Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son, Tejashwi Yadav, amid the Bihar Assembly elections. Former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav has been charged by a court in a corruption case. Furthermore, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has framed charges against several accused, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabdi Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav, in the IRCTC hotel scam.

This is considered a major blow to the Lalu Prasad Yadav family in the midst of the elections. This case dates back to 2004 and 2009, when Lalu Prasad Yadav served as Railway Minister and involves alleged irregularities in the awarding of maintenance contracts for two IRCTC hotels in Puri and Ranchi.

According to the CBI report, Sujata Hotels benefited from a fraudulent tender process. In return, the Lalu Yadav family received prime land in Patna. Tejashwi Yadav is also facing serious charges, including corruption, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering.

Tejashwi Yadav could face damage.

The Rouse Avenue Court has also framed charges against Tejashwi Yadav, which could harm his image. This could be a crucial decision for him. Furthermore, it could also prove to be a panacea for him among the public. It now depends on which way the public mood swings.

If the public considers Tejashwi a victim, the RJD is likely to benefit significantly in the form of sympathy. But this won’t be easy. Tejashwi Yadav has already tried to establish himself as an “ideal” for Bihar’s youth.

Under his leadership, the RJD won 75 seats in the 2020 assembly elections. The IRCTC chargesheet is sure to dent this image. The CBI report clearly states that the tender process was rigged during Lalu’s tenure as Railway Minister.

When will the votes be cast?

The political temperature in Bihar is sky-high these days. The assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases, and all political parties are working tirelessly to ensure this. The first phase of voting will be held on November 6th and the second on November 11th. The most important thing is that the results will come on 14 November 2025.
