Fingerprints or iris scans are not required for children under 5 years of age when applying for an Aadhaar card. This is because the iris scans are not fully developed at this age. When a child is over 5 years of age, iris scans, fingerprints, and a new photo are required. This is also called a mandatory biometric update. Other biometric updates are required for those between the ages of 15 and 17.
