Bonus Hike – The central government has given a gift to central government employees before Diwali. The Modi government has announced a productivity-linked bonus. In an order issued on Monday, the Finance Ministry stated that central government Group C and Non-Gazetted Group B employees will receive an “ad-hoc bonus” equivalent to 30 days’ salary for 2024-25. This amount has been fixed at Rs 6,908.

This bonus will be given to all employees who are in service as of March 31, 2025, and who have worked continuously for at least six months. If someone hasn’t worked the entire year, they will receive a bonus based on the number of months worked (pro-rata).

In an office memorandum issued to various ministries and departments, the ministry said, “…all Central Government employees in Group ‘C’ and all non-gazetted Central Government employees in Group ‘B’, who are not covered under any productivity-based bonus scheme, are directed to convey the President’s approval for grant of non-productivity-based bonus (ad-hoc bonus) equivalent to 30 days’ emoluments for the accounting year 2024-25.”

Who will get the benefit?

This bonus will also be available to eligible employees of the Central Paramilitary Forces and the Armed Forces. It also applies to employees of Union Territories who work on the Central Government pay structure and do not receive any other bonus. Ad-hoc employees will also be eligible, provided they have no leave in their service. Additionally, casual laborers with a certain number of days of work experience in the last three years will also be eligible for the bonus. The bonus amount for these employees has been fixed at Rs 1,184.

How will the bonus be calculated?

The bonus will be calculated based on a maximum monthly salary of Rs 7,000. For example, a 30-day bonus for a salary of ₹7,000 would be calculated as follows:

7,000 × 30 ÷ 30.4 = Rs 6,907.89 (Rs 6,908).
