National Food Security Act and Ration Card

Ration Card Updates

Under the National Food Security Act 2013, two types of ration cards are issued in the state. The first of these is the Antyodaya card, which is given to the families of the poorest class, and the second is the eligible household card, under which common poor families are kept. The government has now made it mandatory to link the data of all beneficiaries with Aadhaar, so that there is transparency in ration distribution and there is no irregularity.

Who has got exemption and an alternative arrangement?

Food Department Commissioner Bhupendra S Chaudhary said that children below the age of five years are currently exempted from e-KYC. Apart from this, such elderly, disabled, or seriously ill people whose Aadhaar verification is failing can contact their regional food officer. After submitting the necessary proof, alternative arrangements will be made available for them, so that they are not deprived of getting a ration.

How and where to get e-KYC done

Ration Card Updates

Ration card holders who have not yet done e-KYC can complete this process by visiting their nearest fair price shop. Biometric verification will be done easily through the e-POS machine available at the shops. If this process is not completed by the last date, then the cardholder will not get a ration for three months from September. After this, the beneficiary will have to get e-KYC done again.
