A large number of people have participated in seeing the grand spectacle of Jagannath Yatra. Significant preparations have been made at the administrative level to prevent any mishaps. This incident occurred when three chariots carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra were near the Sri Gundicha Temple. It is located approximately three kilometres from the Jagannath temple, from where the Rath Yatra began.
How did the stampede happen
According to media reports, this tragic incident happened in the morning during the Jagannath Rath Yatra. On Sunday at 4:30 a.m., a large number of devotees arrived at the holy chariot Gundicha temple for darshan. The crowd gathered near the chariot, after which some people fell to the ground, creating a stampede-like situation. When people in the crowd started running, a large number of people fell and three died on the spot. Among those who lost their lives were two women, whose names are being reported as Prabhati Das and Basanti Sahu.
