After reviewing various high-demand routes, officials have confirmed that the first Vande Bharat Sleeper train will operate on the Visakhapatnam-Bengaluru route. The South Coast Railway Zone officials are finalizing preparations to launch this luxurious train in time for the Dussehra festival.

At present, the journey from Visakhapatnam to Bangalore via regular trains takes about 18 to 20 hours. With the introduction of this new sleeper train, passengers will be able to reach their destination in just 14 hours.

Vande Bharat Sleeper: Train schedule & stopping station information

This train is expected to run six days a week (excluding Mondays):

 

1. Visakhapatnam – Bangalore (Night Journey)

Visakhapatnam: Departs at 08:15 PM.

Duvvada: Arrives at 08:45 PM.

Krishna Canal (near Vijayawada): Arrives at 01:05 AM.

Nandyal: Arrives at 04:40 AM.

Dharmavaram: Arrives at 07:30 AM.

Bangalore: Arrives at 10:00 AM.

2. Bangalore- Visakhapatnam (Return journey)

Bangalore: Departs at 08:00 PM.

Dharmavaram: Arrives at 10:30 PM.

The Railway Board is expected to provide full details regarding the official timings and other information about the train’s launch within the next two days.

 

The inaugural Vande Bharat Sleeper service on the Howrah–Kamakhya route is set to commence in January 2026 and has already proven to be a practical model for assessing performance, pricing, and passenger feedback. With this eastern pilot established, planners at the Railway Board are closely monitoring BEML’s production schedules, as each new rake increases the options for overnight services on already busy trunk routes.

 

Regarding the Vande Bharat Sleeper rakes, BEML’s push in March indicates significant progress. The company has been constructing the stainless-steel Sleeper trainsets at its facilities in Bengaluru, after conducting high-speed and oscillation tests that allowed a prototype to reach 180 kmph in the Kota division last year. These tests, supervised by RDSO, confirmed the braking, stability, and vibration performance under load, paving the way for the mass production of the 16-coach AC Sleeper formations. Officials have noted that several rakes are currently at various stages of fitting and testing.
