UP Weather Update: Weather conditions across many parts of the country have turned perilous. While snowfall in the mountainous regions of North India has brought in the cold, torrential rains are causing severe disruption in the plains and coastal states. Rivers across the country are swelling, roads have caved in, and flood-like situations are emerging in several areas. Heavy rainfall has persisted in UP for the last 48 hours, causing significant distress in many places.
According to the Meteorological Department, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for Jharkhand today due to the forecast of heavy rain. Additionally, a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been declared for Madhya Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Marathwada, Konkan-Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, and Kerala.
Heavy rain in several UP districts today
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain and strong winds at several locations in Eastern Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. According to the department, rain and thundershowers are also likely at various places on Sunday.
The Meteorological Department stated that a low-pressure area, which formed over north-eastern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining northern Chhattisgarh, is moving towards south-eastern Uttar Pradesh. As of 5:30 AM on Saturday, its centre was located approximately 230 kilometres south of Prayagraj.
Casualties across various UP districts
Fatalities have been reported as follows: one death each in Amethi, Bahraich, Banda, Barabanki, Basti, Fatehpur, Hamirpur, Hardoi, and Kanpur Nagar; two in Ayodhya; and four in Lakhimpur Kheri. Reports of house collapses have emerged from Amethi, Farrukhabad, Kasganj, and Mainpuri (one house each). Additionally, two houses each were damaged in Ballia, Balrampur, Pratapgarh, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Varanasi.
Schools and colleges closed in Lucknow today.
Due to inclement weather and heavy rainfall, District Magistrate Vishak G. has ordered the suspension of academic activities on Saturday across all educational institutions, including basic, secondary, and higher education sectors. He stated that teaching activities will remain suspended in all higher education institutions, technical colleges, professional colleges, government polytechnics, and government ITIs. School administrators have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with this order.
