Global NCAP Test Report: Global NCAP’s latest crash test ratings for a select few cars including the Kia Carens, Mahindra Bolero Neo and Honda Amaze are out, with mixed results. In this, Honda Amaze has been given two stars for adult safety and 0 stars for child safety. While the Kia Carens, which earlier got 0 stars for adult safety, has now got 3-stars for adult safety and 5-stars for child safety after it was again submitted for testing. Mahindra Bolero Neo is the third car to get only 1-star for both adult and child safety.

The Carens was tested under the previous Global NCAP protocol, in which it received 3-stars for the safety of adults and children. However, Carens has now also been tested under the new protocol, which shows better composition, but it still gets 0-stars for adult safety. Kia has improved the control system to improve the Neck’s performance while providing quick response. Despite the performance improvements, GNCAP says performance is not as expected, especially with six airbags as standard.

Honda Amaze

Meanwhile, the Amaze was also tested as per the previous Global NCAP protocol, scoring 4-stars for adult safety while 1-star for child safety. However, under the new stringent norms, the compact sedan got 2-stars for adults and 0-stars for child safety. The absence of ESC and lack of 3-point seat belts in all seating positions is one of the few reasons, but Honda has recently increased the safety features of its cars, including seat belts for all 5 occupants in the Amaze. Reminders are included. And if new models were tested, it could change the safety ratings.

Mahindra Bolero Neo

The Mahindra Bolero Neo was tested and found to have low protection for adults in a frontal collision, an unstable structure along with an unstable footwell area, weak chest protection for the driver and poor leg protection. Frontal protection showed a greater difference with side impact protection. All seating positions as well as the lack of two airbags on the side seating benches and 3 point belts pose a risk. Child occupant protection in dynamic performance was acceptable. These cars are among the last cars to be tested before the start of India NCAP.
