Train Cancelled: Major setback for railway passengers. Heavy rainfall in the Simaluguri region of Sivasagar district, Assam, has led to the overflow of the Dikho River. The river’s waters have reached the Simaluguri railway station, yard, railway colony, and tracks. To ensure the safety of rail passengers, the North Frontier Railway (NFR) has suspended train services on the Simaluguri-Namtiali and Simaluguri-Selenghat routes until further notice.

According to CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, several long-distance trains traveling to and from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia have been rerouted via the Rangia-Rangapara route. Additionally, numerous local trains have been cancelled, while some are either terminating or being rerouted midway.

 

The Railways has sent personnel and essential materials to the affected areas to help restore the tracks. However, due to the elevated water levels, it is currently impossible to accurately assess the damage to the tracks. A timeline for restoration will be established only after the water level decreases.

Arrangements have been made for food and drinking water for stranded passengers, and ticket refunds have also been made available. Help desks have been set up at all major railway stations for the information of passengers. ASTC buses and local buses and special trains are provided as alternative transportation for passengers from Namtiali to Sibsagar Town Station. Apart from this, a special train has been planned to run from Sibsagar Town to Dibrugarh and New Tinsukia.

 

Arrangements for transporting passengers by road

 

217 passengers of train number 22503 Vivek Express are being transported from Selenghat to Mariani by road. 570 passengers of the 15959 Kamrup Express and 490 passengers of the 15934 Amritsar-Tinsukia Express are being provided with necessary assistance at Mariani station. Furthermore, the railway has also made arrangements to transport affected passengers to their destinations by road.
