Former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has supported the inclusion of Indian Test team captain Shubman Gill in the Asia Cup squad. He said that Gill has the ability to adjust himself in the shortest format of cricket as well. According to him, India may have players like Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma, but Gill should not be taken lightly.

In a conversation with TimesofIndia.com, Harbhajan said, “Yes, we have players like Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma, but you cannot take Shubman Gill lightly. He is a very talented batsman who can adjust to any format. He is a player for all formats.”

Bhajji further said, “In my opinion, Gill can play T20 cricket and even dominate this format. As fans, we want to see fours and sixes on every ball, but you also need batsmen who can play long innings and save the team when needed.”

If we look at Gill’s T20 International career, he has scored 578 runs in 21 matches at an average of 30.42. This includes one century and three half-centuries. He also has the ability to stay at one end and score quickly, which was seen in IPL 2025. In the last IPL season, Gill scored 650 runs in 15 innings at an average of 50, with a strike rate of more than 155.

Apart from this, Gill is also one of the few Indian players who have scored centuries in all three formats of international cricket.
