Post Office Service: With the rapid expansion of e-commerce and digital logistics in India, there has been a longstanding demand for enhanced delivery services. In response, the Department of Posts, Government of India, has made a significant move by launching new Speed Post services, which will assure customers of timely parcel delivery.
The new services were inaugurated in New Delhi by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Dr. Chandrashekhar Pemmasani. This initiative is seen as a crucial step in bolstering India Post’s position in the express delivery sector.
Guaranteed delivery within one day
The standout feature of this launch is the Department of Posts’ “24 Speed Post” service. This service is tailored for parcels that require swift delivery. It guarantees D+1 delivery, meaning next-day delivery. Furthermore, ’24 Speed Post Parcel’ and ’48 Speed Post’ services have also been introduced, ensuring delivery within D+1 and D+2 timelines, respectively. To ensure timely service completion and reduce the chances of delays, dedicated processing systems and priority air transport will be utilized.
It will start from these 6 cities
The new services have been rolled out in the initial phase across six major metropolitan areas of the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The government is optimistic that launching these services in these cities will enhance India Post’s presence in the express delivery market and pose strong competition to private courier firms. Additionally, the communications minister mentioned that India’s e-commerce market could soar to Rs 30 lakh crore by 2030, nearly tripling its current value of Rs 11 lakh crore.
This growth will further drive the demand for quicker delivery services. The new Speed Post services offer customers several advanced features, including end-to-end tracking, real-time SMS alerts, and an OTP-based delivery system, which will enhance parcel security and transparency.
Business customers will be offered API integration, centralized billing, and ‘Buy Now Pay Later’ features. Free pickup will also be available for bulk shipments. The most important thing is that if the delivery is not done within the stipulated time, then customers will also be given a money back guarantee, which will further increase the reliability of this service.
