In India, too, significant difficulties are being encountered at the grassroots level regarding the procurement of gas cylinders. Needy individuals are unable to secure supplies of LPG cylinders, leading to a worsening of the situation.
Although official government statistics claim that cylinder sales are on the rise, gas agencies and private stores remain crowded with customers. The pressure on the system has intensified significantly due to an additional 15,000 bookings from customers who typically purchase cylinders only occasionally throughout the year. Vineet Kumar, the District Nodal Officer for Indian Oil Corporation, stated that there are 85 gas agencies within the district, serving a total of 1.306 million (13.06 lakh) connections. Currently, 19,221 bookings are being registered daily. Against this volume—and including pending requests—a total of 19,644 cylinders are being supplied daily. This surge is partly driven by panic, particularly among PNG (Piped Natural Gas) subscribers and families holding multiple gas connections.

The server was disrupted due to unnecessary bookings made by customers with PNG connections or multiple connections.
