Finally some good news has come from Australia. Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from the ICC and is now reported to be stable. The BCCI-appointed team doctor has been monitoring Iyer’s condition for the past three days.

The incident occurred on October 25th during the third and final ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), when Iyer fell and injured himself while attempting a spectacular catch off Alex Carey in the cover area. He was immediately taken to the hospital.

Statement from BCCI

The BCCI issued a statement on October 27, saying that Shreyas Iyer has suffered a bruise below his left rib. He has been admitted to the hospital for further evaluation. Scans have revealed a bruise in his spleen. He is undergoing treatment. His condition is stable and he is recovering well. The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his injury in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India. The Indian team doctor will be with Shreyas in Sydney to assess his condition.

According to Cricbuzz, Iyer is now out of danger, although he suffered internal bleeding from the injury. He is undergoing treatment at a Sydney hospital, with team doctor Dr. Rizwan Khan by his side. Some local friends have also supported him during this difficult time, while a member of Iyer’s family will leave Mumbai for Sydney once the visa process is complete.

When will he return to India?

It’s currently unclear when Iyer will return to India, but it’s believed the BCCI, team management, Iyer’s family, and his personal staff are reluctant to rush him back. It’s expected he will remain in Sydney until he recovers completely. This means he may have to remain in the hospital for a few more days.

Iyer’s next possible assignment is the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which will be played on November 30, December 3, and December 6. It remains to be seen whether he will be fully fit by then. Meanwhile, the Indian team has arrived in Canberra to play a five-match T20I series against Australia. The first match will be played on October 29.
