Key Updates on Squad Selection

India’s 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 has been announced. Chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, shared the details in a press conference. Some surprising decisions were made, as Mohammad Siraj, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Karun Nair were not included. Jasprit Bumrah is still not fully fit, so Harshit Rana will replace him in the upcoming ODI series against England.

Focus on Batting Strength

The batting line-up includes experienced names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. Young talents such as Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant bring additional strength. Jaiswal might debut in the Champions Trophy as a backup opener.

Update on Jasprit Bumrah

Ajit Agarkar stated, “We are waiting on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and will receive a final update from BCCI’s medical team in early February.” Rohit Sharma added, “We are not sure about Jasprit Bumrah’s availability at this stage, so we needed someone to fill that role. We selected Arshdeep Singh for this reason.”

Karun Nair Misses Out

Despite his phenomenal performance, Karun Nair has not been included in the squad. Addressing the omission, Ajit Agarkar commented, “Averaging 750+ is simply insane, but it’s a squad of 15, so we can’t accommodate everyone.”
