An important update has now emerged regarding this. According to media reports, the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar is expected to announce India’s ODI squad by January 4th. According to the Times of India, the selectors are expected to announce their decision on the squad on Saturday or Sunday. Team captain Shubman Gill will also participate in the meeting via video conferencing. Gill is currently playing for Punjab in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is why he will not be able to attend the selection meeting in person.

Shubman Gill may once again lead Team India in this series. Previously, KL Rahul captained the ODI series against South Africa, and India won that series 2-1. Now, the selectors are considering appointing Gill as captain again. Meanwhile, the situation regarding the return of vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is unclear, and a final decision will be made in the meeting.
