IPL 2026 has created a lot of buzz as it was predicted. In the auction event, multiple records have broken. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took some expensive moves to make their sqaud strong enough for the IPL 2026 season.
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green created history in the IPL auction. Green was bought by KKR for Rs 25.20 crore in the auction and included in its team. Cameron Green has now become the most expensive foreign player in the IPL auction. By doing this, Green has broken the record of his compatriot Mitchell Starc.
Starc was bought by KKR in 2024 for Rs 24.75 crore and included in its team. Starc became the most expensive foreign player in IPL history at that time. Pat Cummins is at number three in this matter. Cummins was bought by Hyderabad for Rs 20.5 crore in the 2024 auction.
Additionally, Sam Curran was signed by the Punjab Kings for ₹18.50 crore (185 million rupees) in the 2023 auction. It’s worth noting that Green was previously signed by the Mumbai Indians for ₹17.5 crore (175 million rupees) in 2023.
Top 5 most expensive players in IPL history
25.20 crore – Cameron Green (KKR, 2026)
24.75 crore – Mitchell Starc (KKR, 2024)
20.50 crore – Pat Cummins (SRH, 2024)
18.50 crore – Sam Curran (PBKS, 2023)
17.50 crore – Cameron Green (MI, 2023)
Green will get Rs 18 crore
This is due to the IPL’s “maximum-fee” rule, which states that a foreign player’s maximum fee in the mini-auction will be less than the highest retention slab (INR 18 crore) and the highest price in the previous mega auction (Rishabh Pant’s 27 crore). This time, the highest retention slab was 18 crore, and in the previous mega auction, Rishabh Pant received 27 crore rupees. Consequently, the lowest of the two is 18 crore rupees, which is the highest retention slab. This means that even though KKR bought Green for 25.20 crore rupees in the auction, the Australian all-rounder will only receive 18 crore rupees. The remaining amount will be deducted from KKR’s purse.
