The Penalty Imposed by the BCCI
The Delhi Capitals emerged victorious in the match played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Delhi. After dismissing Vaibhav Suryavanshi during the game, Kyle Jamieson celebrated the wicket in a highly animated manner. 15-year-old Vaibhav has a reputation for taking on and dominating even top-tier bowlers; he is also known for his ability to score runs rapidly. He has already scored two centuries in the IPL—one in 35 balls and the other in 36 balls.
After taking the wicket, Jamieson shouted, walked up to the batsman, and began clapping his hands. The BCCI deemed this style of celebration to be a violation of the rules. In an official statement regarding the incident, the BCCI announced that Kyle Jamieson was handed one demerit point and issued an official warning for breaching a Level 1 offence under the IPL Code of Conduct for players and team officials.
The Rule Violated by Jamieson
Delhi’s fiery bowler, Jamieson, violated Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This article pertains to the use of language, actions, or gestures that are derogatory or that could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player during a match. The BCCI further confirmed that the bowler has admitted to his offence. After dismissing Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Jamieson was found standing aggressively close to him, an act that could have provoked an aggressive reaction from the batsman. Jamieson admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee Rajiv Seth.
