The excitement of IPL 2025 is increasing with each passing day. As the tournament moves forward, fans are witnessing some thrilling matches. All the teams are trying their best to beat each other. So far, every team has played three to five matches, and the points table keeps changing after each game.
At this point, it’s still early to make predictions, but there are two to three teams that might struggle. If they lose one or two more matches, it could become very hard for them to reach the top 4. Right now, the condition of the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings looks quite poor.
Current Standings and Strong Contenders
Looking at the points table, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, RCB, and Punjab Kings are in the top 4. Among these teams, Delhi has played three matches and won all three. The other three teams have played four matches each.
In addition to these four, LSG also has 6 points. So, out of these five teams, two or three are strong contenders for the playoffs at this point. If these teams don’t lose two or three consecutive matches from here on, they should have no trouble making it to the top 4.
Teams Facing the Playoff Threat
Now, let’s talk about the teams that are under pressure. These include the Mumbai Indians, the Chennai Super Kings, and last season’s runner-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya; Chennai Super Kings, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad; and Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by Pat Cummins, have all played five matches so far. Unfortunately, they’ve lost four of those and won just one. All three teams have only 2 points.
Each team plays 14 matches in the IPL league phase. This means they have only 9 matches remaining. To qualify for the playoffs, they must win at least seven of these nine matches. Ideally, teams need at least 16 points to make it to the playoffs, though it is possible with 14 points, but this has only happened in rare cases.
