There is great news for Chennai Super Kings fans, who are worried about the team’s poor form in IPL 2025. The team has added former Mumbai Indians’ explosive batsman Dewald Brevis to its squad in the middle of the season.
After Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured, CSK was missing a strong batsman in the middle order. Now, with Brevis joining the team, Chennai has got a player who can score quick runs in tough situations. The franchise has signed this South African player for ₹2.2 crore.
The IPL 2025 season has been disappointing so far for the 5-time champion Chennai Super Kings. The team has lost 5 out of 7 matches and won only 2. Due to this poor performance, CSK is now at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, sitting at 10th place.
After Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured, the team also changed the captain mid-season. But even under Dhoni’s leadership, the performance did not improve much. Now, the franchise has started making changes to the squad.
CSK Signs Dewald Brevis as a Replacement
CSK had one foreign player slot left and used this chance to bring in South African batsman Dewald Brevis. He has been signed as a replacement for the injured Gurjpaneet Singh.
According to the IPL media advisory:
“Chennai Super Kings have signed Dewald Brevis as a replacement for injured Gurjapreet Singh for the remainder of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.”
Brevis’ T20 Career So Far
Dewald Brevis has played 81 T20 matches and scored 1787 runs, including a highest score of 162. He made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played 2 T20IS so far.

Brevis was earlier part of the Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches. Now, CSK has signed him for ₹2.2 crore.
Brevis Had Already Hinted at the Move
Before the official announcement, Brevis had shared a yellow-themed post on his social media, which made fans guess his move to CSK. Fans started congratulating him even before the news became official.
CSK’s Struggle for a Middle Order Power Hitter
After Ruturaj’s injury, CSK has been looking for a strong batsman for the middle order. Rahul Tripathi has been given repeated chances, but his performances have not helped the team.
Now the team hopes Brevis will solve this problem and help boost the scoring rate in the middle overs.
