New Delhi: The ICC released the latest ODI rankings on Wednesday, March 5, bringing notable changes in player standings despite India’s victory against Australia in the Champions Trophy semi-final. Indian captain Rohit Sharma faced a setback in the rankings, while Virat Kohli gained a position following his match-winning knock.

Shubman Gill Maintains No. 1 Position

India’s young opener Shubman Gill continues to dominate the ICC ODI batting rankings, securing the top spot with 791 rating points. His consistent performances have kept him ahead of the competition. However, captain Rohit Sharma has suffered a two-spot drop, slipping from third to fifth place. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, who played a crucial 84-run innings against Pakistan, has moved up from fifth to fourth position with 747 rating points, equalling Rohit’s tally.

Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has also made significant progress. With scores of 79 against New Zealand and 45 against Pakistan, Iyer has gained one spot in the rankings, moving to eighth place with 702 rating points. This makes him the fourth Indian in the top 10 ODI batsmen.

Varun Chakravarthy Climbs 143 Spots in Bowling Rankings

India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has made a remarkable leap in the ICC ODI bowling rankings. His impressive performances in the Champions Trophy 2025 have earned him a massive jump of 143 places, placing him at 96th position. Chakravarthy took five wickets against New Zealand and dismissed two key Australian batsmen, including Travis Head, in the semi-final.

Mohammed Shami Gains, Kuldeep Yadav Slips

Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has also seen a rise in the rankings after his impactful spell in the semi-final, where he picked up three wickets economically. He has climbed three places and now sits at 11th position with 609 rating points.

Meanwhile, India’s top-ranked ODI bowler, Kuldeep Yadav, has suffered a minor setback. The left-arm wrist spinner has slipped three places to sixth position, now holding 637 rating points. Despite the drop, he remains the only Indian in the top 10 of the ICC ODI bowling rankings.
