Sikkim Landslide: Recent significant news is emerging from Sikkim where a landslide occurred following heavy rainfall, resulting in extensive damage in Rimbi village. The incident, which took place late on Thursday night, involved rocks, mud, and debris cascading down rapidly in parts of the Yuksom-Tashiding area of West Sikkim. Fortunately, there have been no casualties or property losses reported so far.

A video capturing the landslide has surfaced and is circulating widely on social media platforms, depicting the flow of mud and debris towards the village, causing destruction to several houses. Despite the devastation, there have been no reports of injuries or property damage. The continuous rainfall poses a threat to nearby residences, properties, and road access, prompting authorities to advise caution to the public.

This is not the first instance of landslides in the region, as a previous incident had washed away a section of the road connecting Rimbi to Khecheopalri. In response, the Sikkim government initiated a comprehensive inspection of monsoon-damaged roads and instructed officials to expedite repairs to restore connectivity. Roads and Bridges Minister NB Dahal personally assessed the damages around Rimbi and directed immediate repair actions, involving the NHIDCL and contractors to ensure minimal disruption to travelers.

Late Thursday night, Rimbi village in the Yuksom-Tashiding area of West Sikkim was struck by a landslide, which resulted in more than 30 houses being buried under debris.

Several structures including government housing, electricity department buildings, and private residences suffered significant damage. Assessments are currently being conducted to determine the extent of the destruction. Prior to this incident, 35 families were rescued from the Singlitam-Rimbi region. A video capturing the landslide has circulated widely on social media, revealing the devastation caused by the debris.

The heavy rainfall and landslides have impacted NH-10, the primary highway linking Sikkim to the rest of the country. The road connectivity between Rangpo and Gangtok has been disrupted at the 20th mile of Bardang, approximately 35 km from Gangtok, due to the highway being blocked, leading to disturbances in traffic flow. NB Dahal, the Minister of Roads and Bridges, has surveyed various damaged areas, including the roads in and around Rimbi within the Yuksom-Tashiding constituency.
