Rule Change From July: June is nearing its end, and July is swiftly approaching. Like every month, several significant financial regulations will come into effect from July 1st, potentially impacting the daily lives and finances of many individuals. It is essential for a wide range of people, including employees, retirees, taxpayers, and bank clients, to be informed about these upcoming changes. Some alterations may affect your spending habits, while others could pertain to your investments, banking activities, and financial strategies. Therefore, being well-informed about these new regulations before July begins is crucial.
1. Changes related to Aadhar card
From July 1, 2026, updating the email ID on your Aadhaar card will be simplified. The UIDAI has declared that the Rs 75 fee for this update via the Aadhaar mobile app will be waived for six months, starting from July 1 to December 31, 2026. This initiative aims to prompt more individuals to keep their Aadhaar details current and enhance their access to digital services.
2. Revisions in railway passenger rules
Beginning July 1, 2026, the penalties for traveling without a ticket on trains might become stricter. The proposed changes by the central government suggest that the minimum fine for ticketless travel could rise from ₹250 to ₹500. Moreover, hefty fines could be imposed for various offenses like traveling on another person’s ticket, causing disturbances on a train, begging, unauthorized hawking, or traveling in a women’s coach. These adjustments are intended to bolster discipline and passenger safety within the railway system.
3. Alterations in FD regulations
Following the recent RBI MPC meeting, some banks have adjusted their interest rates. At the start of July, modifications in FD rules and interest rates might occur. Banks regularly review their FD rates and make adjustments based on market conditions. Therefore, investors should verify the latest interest rates and regulations of the bank before initiating a new FD or renewing an existing one.
4. Credit card amendments
Effective July 1, 2026, SBI Cards will be modifying the reward point policies for select credit cards, such as PhonePe SBI Credit Card PURPLE and PhonePe SBI Credit Card SELECT BLACK. Under the new guidelines, there will be limits on earning reward points, and certain transactions may not qualify for earning rewards. Cardholders using these specific cards should be informed about these changes beforehand to grasp the implications on their reward benefits. Additionally, several other banks might also introduce alterations to their credit card policies in July.
5. Fluctuations in LPG prices
In early June, the cost of domestic LPG cylinders surged nationwide. The price of a 14.2-kilogram domestic cylinder was raised by Rs 29, marking the second increase in the last three months. Following this adjustment, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi escalated from Rs 913 to Rs 942. It is anticipated that LPG prices will remain stable in July, but any unresolved tensions in the Middle East and continued disruptions in energy supply could lead to price variations.
6. Changes in petrol and diesel rates
The global increase in crude oil prices due to the US-Iran conflict influenced petrol prices in India, resulting in four price hikes in May 2026. The most recent increase on May 25 raised petrol prices by Rs 2.46 to Rs 2.95 per liter. Prior to this, there were two consecutive increases in May, with the prices rising by Rs 0.87 to Rs 1.46 and then by Rs 0.82 to Rs 1.71 per liter. Petrol and diesel prices are subject to change in July.
7. Updates on ATF fuel prices
Recently, the central government raised the export duty on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). The new rates impose a duty of Rs 14 per liter on diesel exports and Rs 12.5 per liter on ATF exports, while leaving the export duty on petrol and the existing excise duty on petrol and diesel for domestic use unchanged. These rates are periodically reviewed based on international crude oil prices and domestic availability, indicating that ATF prices may see adjustments at the beginning of the upcoming month.
