Make delicious Puran Poli: Ingredients and Method

For Puran Poli dough
2 cups wheat flour

½ cup refined flour

1 pinch turmeric powder

Salt to taste

2 tsp ghee

Water (for kneading dough)

For Puran (stuffing)
1 cup chana dal

1 cup jaggery (grated)

½ tsp cardamom powder

1 pinch nutmeg powder

2 tsp ghee

Method of preparation

First, knead the dough for Puran Poli. In a large vessel, add flour, refined flour, salt, turmeric and ghee and mix well. Add water little by little and knead a soft dough. Now keep it covered for 30 minutes.

Now, prepare to make Puran. Wash chana dal and boil it in a cooker with 2 cups of water till 4 whistles. When the dal boils, strain its water.

Add jaggery to the boiled dal and cook on a low flame. When the jaggery has melted completely and the mixture starts to thicken, add cardamom and nutmeg powder and mix well. Continue cooking until the mixture becomes completely dry and thick.

Let the mixture cool down. Once cooled, form small balls from it.

Now, take a small dough ball, spread it a little, and place the puran ball in the middle, then close it well. Now roll it lightly to make a round roti.

Apply ghee on a pan and fry the puran poli on both sides till it becomes golden and crispy.

Serve the hot puran poli by pouring ghee on it. You can also eat it with curd or more ghee.

So this Ganesh Chaturthi, make this special bhog for Bappa with your own hands and enjoy the festival!
