Ration Card Benefits: The government provides free rations every month to ration card holders. If you are an eligible ration card holder, you can easily avail the benefits of this scheme. Many ration card holders are unaware of the exact quantity of rations they are entitled to receive. Do you know how much ration you should be getting based on your ration card? The amount is determined by the category of the ration card and the number of family members.

According to the Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Government of India, ration cards are issued under two categories: Priority Household (PHH) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY). The quantity of rations provided differs based on these categories.

Quantity of food grains provided under PHH ration cards:
Families falling under the PHH category are provided with a monthly ration allocation based on the number of eligible members registered on the card. In this category, each individual is entitled to 5 kg of food grains. For a household with two members, 10 kg of food grains are provided; for four members, 20 kg; for five members, 25 kg; and for six members, 30 kg of food grains are provided.

Under the AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) category, each family is provided with a total of 35 kg of food grains every month. This scheme is specifically designed to ensure food security for poor and needy families. In the AAY category, the monthly ration allocation remains 35 kg, regardless of whether the family consists of 4 or 5 members. Important points for ration cardholders to keep in mind
When collecting rations from a ration shop, there are a few important things to keep in mind.

After the distribution of rations, ensure you retain the receipt generated by the ePOS (electronic Point of Sale) machine. Verify that the quantity of grain you receive matches the amount specified on the receipt. Additionally, ration cardholders should verify the category of their ration card. For PHH (Priority Household) cards, the quantity of rations allocated is determined based on the number of family members. If you notice any discrepancy in the quantity, you may lodge a complaint with the official from the Department of Food and Civil Supplies.
