PNB Alert: If you have an account with Punjab National Bank (PNB) that has remained unused for a long time, there is an important update for you. The bank may close certain inactive accounts after November 10, 2026. This applies to accounts that have had no transactions for an extended period and currently have a zero balance. PNB has issued an alert to such account holders. Punjab National Bank is one of the country’s major public sector banks.
According to PNB’s new guidelines, such accounts may be closed after November 10, 2026, as accounts that remain unused for a long time are at risk of being misused.
Which accounts will be closed?
According to the bank’s notice, these rules will apply only to specific types of accounts:
Accounts with a zero balance.
Accounts that have had no transactions for three consecutive years as of September 30, 2026.
Old, inactive salary accounts that have not seen any activity for a long time.
How can an account be reactivated?
Proof of identity and address: Valid documents such as a passport, voter ID, or driving license.
Tax-related documents: Documents such as a PAN card or Form 16.
Request letter: A formal application to reactivate the account.
Where can you seek assistance?
If you require detailed information regarding your account or have questions about the KYC process, you may contact your PNB branch. Additionally, you can reach out via the toll-free numbers 1800-1800 or 1800-2021.
What is an ‘inoperative’ account?
According to bank regulations, an account is classified as ‘inoperative’ if there have been no transactions in your savings or current account for 24 months. However, an account only becomes inactive if it remains unused for two years.
