Free LPG: Both the state and central governments are currently running several schemes for women. The government aims to empower women across the country, enabling them to become self-reliant and fulfil their dreams. Approval was granted to provide two free LPG refills to eligible beneficiaries on the occasions of Holi and Diwali for the 2026-27 financial year.
The Yogi government has now allocated ₹2,142.78 crore for this scheme.
During the festive season, households tend to spend significantly more on cooking gas as they prepare various dishes at home. If you reside in Uttar Pradesh and hold a gas connection under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, you are eligible to receive a free LPG cylinder this Diwali.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Government of Uttar Pradesh stated that, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is continuously working toward the empowerment of women and improving the lives of families from impoverished backgrounds. The state government’s objective is to ensure that every eligible family has access to clean cooking fuel, allowing the joy of festivals to reach every household.
On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, a subsidy for LPG cylinder refills will be provided to over 1.89 crore eligible families in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. An amount exceeding ₹1,500 crore has been earmarked for this purpose. This initiative will provide financial relief to poor families and protect women from exposure to harmful smoke, thereby safeguarding their health.
Gas subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
To avail the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, it is mandatory for gas connection holders to complete their e-KYC. Additionally, it is essential that their Aadhaar card is linked to their bank account. The Uttar Pradesh government provides free LPG cylinder refills twice a year—during the festivals of Holi and Diwali—to bring joy to the lives of poor families and help ease their financial burden. Under the PM Ujjwala Yojana, beneficiaries must first book a cylinder through their existing connection with Indane, Bharat Gas, or Hindustan Petroleum. For women or families holding an Ujjwala gas connection, the full cost of the cylinder will be credited to their bank account.
