PM Fasal Bima Yojana: Big news for farmers. The Madhya Pradesh government has announced crop insurance claim payments worth Rs 317.86 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Rabi 2025–26 season, bringing financial relief to eligible farmers across the state. The announcement highlights the government’s efforts to strengthen agricultural security and support farmers facing financial difficulties due to crop damage.
Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme
The amount is being transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, making the payment process more transparent and convenient. The initiative was announced under the leadership of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on October 24, 2026.
According to the information shared in the announcement, approximately 16.70 lakh eligible farmer applications are being covered under the crop insurance claim payment process. The scheme is designed to provide financial protection to farmers against specified crop losses caused by natural calamities, adverse weather conditions, pests and diseases, subject to the scheme’s applicable rules and coverage provisions. Crop damage can significantly affect farmers’ income, disrupt the next agricultural season and make it difficult to purchase seeds, fertilisers and other essential farming inputs. Crop insurance assistance can help reduce this financial burden and provide farmers with support to recover from agricultural losses.
The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is an important government initiative aimed at reducing the financial risks associated with farming. Under the scheme, eligible farmers can receive insurance compensation when their insured crops suffer covered losses and their claims are approved according to the applicable guidelines. The programme seeks to encourage more secure agricultural practices while helping farming households manage the uncertainty associated with weather conditions and other crop-related risks. The direct transfer of claim amounts into beneficiaries’ bank accounts is intended to make the payment process easier and reduce the need for farmers to depend on intermediaries.
The announcement also highlights the total crop insurance benefits reportedly provided to farmers in Madhya Pradesh over several years. According to the figures displayed, crop insurance claims amounting to Rs 32,402.59 crore were paid to farmers between the 2016–17 and 2025–26 seasons. This cumulative figure reflects the scale of financial assistance delivered through crop insurance over the stated period. Such support can play an important role in helping farmers manage losses, maintain agricultural activities and prepare for subsequent sowing seasons.

Farmers who believe they are eligible for the latest payment should check their application and claim status through the official Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana portal, their registered insurance company or the relevant agricultural department. They should ensure that their bank account details and other required records are accurate and that their application has been processed successfully. The amount payable to each farmer may vary depending on the insured crop, the extent of the assessed loss, the applicable insurance terms and the approval of the claim. Therefore, the announced total of Rs 317.86 crore should not be interpreted as an equal payment to every applicant.
