EPF Pension: Great news for millions of EPS pensioners nationwide! Next month could bring a significant breakthrough. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is considering bumping up the minimum monthly pension from Rs 1,000 to Rs 7,500. According to so many viral reports, the EPFO’s Central Board of Trustees (CBT) is scheduled to hold its 240th meeting on November 19 in Gir, Gujarat, where they’ll likely discuss raising the minimum monthly pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS).

Back in September 2014, the central government established the minimum EPS pension at Rs 1,000 monthly. Since then, inflation has skyrocketed across the country. That’s why pensioner groups and trade unions have been pushing hard for a pension hike. They’re pointing out that Rs 1,000 simply isn’t enough to cover medical bills and everyday essentials anymore. These unions are specifically asking for the monthly minimum to jump to Rs 7,500, plus the addition of a dearness allowance (DA).

Minimum wage has been increased

There’s real reason to be optimistic about a pension increase this time around. The central government just recently raised the mandatory salary threshold for EPFO-covered employees from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per month. Plus, Union Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently signaled that the government is actively reviewing the rules and taking a constructive approach to the pension increase request.

The meeting will be held on November 19

This meeting on November 19th is also considered significant because, after many years, the Board will be moving from the EPFO headquarters in East Kidwai Nagar, Delhi, to meet in another state. All eyes are now on this crucial meeting on November 19th.
