Nestlé Milk Powder: The Food Safety Department has taken significant action following directives from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Specifically, a sample of Nestlé’s ‘Low Fat Dairy Whitener’—collected from ‘The Lalit’, a prominent five-star hotel in Delhi—failed to meet the quality standards in the food analyst’s report. The lab report has declared the product ‘unsafe’ and ‘sub-standard’ under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Notice to Bharat Hotels Limited
The food regulator has also issued a notice to Bharat Hotels Limited, the company that operates The Lalit Hotel, regarding this matter. It is worth noting that low-fat dairy whiteners are an alternative to standard milk powder, containing significantly less fat than regular dairy whiteners.

Directives to Halt Sales
Relevant administrative officials have issued orders to immediately ban the sale, storage, and distribution of this specific product. Additionally, instructions have been given to remove existing stocks of this dairy whitener from hotels, restaurants, and retail outlets. Officials stated that they will initiate punitive action against the concerned parties for violating regulations under the FSS Act, 2006.

Where was the sample collected?
According to the FSSAI, the sample of Nestlé’s ‘Low Fat Dairy Whitener’ was obtained from the premises of Bharat Hotels Limited (The Lalit) in Connaught Place, New Delhi. This sample was subsequently sent to a food analyst for testing.

What did the test reveal?
The FSSAI food analyst’s lab report found the Nestlé ‘Low Fat Dairy Whitener’ sample to be unsafe and substandard. According to the report, the product did not comply with the regulations prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. This means that the tested sample did not meet the standards related to food safety and quality.

Notice issued to The Lalit Hotel as well

According to the FSSAI, a notice regarding this matter has also been issued to Bharat Hotels Limited (The Lalit), the company that operates The Lalit Hotel. This notice concerns Nestle. Additionally, a copy of the food analyst’s lab report has been provided to the food business operator.
