Mahindra Thar OG: Mahindra has updated the Thar OG with a fresh look, but its standout quality isn’t just the new design—it’s the combination of pricing and upgrades. The new Thar OG features a new chassis, revised suspension, improved steering, more powerful engines, and a host of new features. Despite these changes, the prices for certain comparable variants have remained largely unchanged. Let’s look at the details.

Mahindra Thar OG Pricing

The entry-level 1.5-litre diesel AXT variant of the new Mahindra Thar OG is priced at ₹10.32 lakh—the same starting price as the previous model. Similarly, the 1.5-litre diesel LXT variant is priced at ₹12.99 lakh. Notably, the price increase for some petrol and 2.2-litre diesel LXT variants is minimal, capped at just ₹500.

New Features of the AXT Variant

The entry-level Thar OG AXT variant is generating the most buzz. Priced at ₹10.32 lakh, it now comes with electric power steering, replacing the older hydraulic steering system.

Additionally, a push-button start feature has been added. The previous 16-inch wheels have been replaced by 18-inch steel wheels, giving the SUV a more commanding road presence. A soft armrest has also been added to the second row, enhancing comfort for rear passengers.

Features such as rear AC vents, dual airbags, ESP with rollover mitigation, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat were already present.

Mahindra Thar OG Platform

The Thar OG has undergone the most significant changes beneath the bodywork. The new SUV is built on the M_Glyde 4G platform, engineered for greater structural rigidity. This directly enhances the SUV’s overall stability and driving dynamics.

There has also been a major update to the rear suspension; Mahindra has introduced a Pentalink suspension setup with Watts Link. Furthermore, NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) damping has been improved, helping to reduce unwanted noise and vibrations from the engine, road, and suspension within the cabin. Off-Road Features in LXT

The equipment list for the LXT variant has been significantly expanded. 4WD versions now feature an electronic locking differential, which helps manage traction more effectively in off-road conditions.

Dedicated terrain modes—such as Mud, Sand, and Snow—have also been included, making it easier to adjust the SUV’s driving parameters according to the surface. Terrain Assist is also available on select RWD versions.

A colour MID is a new addition to the LXT trim level. Meanwhile, existing features such as the 10.25-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, cruise control, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear wiper, and Adventure Statistics have been retained.

Petrol and Diesel Engines

Mahindra has also updated the engines for the Thar OG. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine now delivers 150 hp and 330 Nm of torque, an improvement over the previous setup’s ~130 hp and 300 Nm. Both power and torque figures have seen a significant boost.

The 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine now generates approximately 160 hp and 330 Nm, up from the previous ~150 hp. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre diesel engine continues to offer around 117 hp and 300 Nm; this engine helps maintain the entry-level price point of ₹10.32 lakh.

ZXT Variant

If you are looking for a Thar OG with a more extensive feature list, the ZXT variant sits at the top of the lineup. It comes equipped with six airbags, front and rear disc brakes, front parking sensors, wireless charging, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Additionally, it features LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with a cornering function, leatherette upholstery, and the FDD system. A rear-view camera and TPMS are also included, though these features were already present in the previous LXT model.
