PM Surya Ghar Bijli Yojna: An ambitious scheme of the Government of India, which aims to promote solar energy across the country and provide financial relief to the citizens. Under this scheme, every eligible family will get 300 units of free electricity, subsidy of up to ₹ 78,000 on installing solar panels and an opportunity to earn income from solar energy. This scheme is a big step towards environmental protection and energy self-sufficiency.
What is PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme?
This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 February 2024. Its main objective is to install rooftop solar panels in 1 crore houses in the country. This scheme will not only reduce the domestic electricity bill but will also generate income by selling excess electricity. Also, this scheme ensures environmental sustainability by promoting the Green Energy Mission.

Eligibility for PM Surya Ghar Bijli Yojana
- The applicant must be a citizen of India.
- Owner of a house whose roof is suitable for installing solar panels.
- A valid electricity connection is a must.
- The applicant must not have availed any other solar subsidy earlier.
- The applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
Application process
- First of all visit the official website.
- Click on the option “Apply for Rooftop Solar”.
- Fill in your details:

- Consumer number
- Mobile number and email
- Log in to the portal and fill the form.
Upload the required documents:
- Aadhaar Card
- Bank Account Details
- Electricity Bill
- Submit the application and get the approval from the Discom.
- After getting the approval, get the solar panels installed from a registered vendor.
