The central government has taken a surprising decision to further strengthen career opportunities in the security forces. The government has made significant amendments to the recruitment process of the Border Security Force (BSF) regarding Agniveers.
Now, 50 per cent of the direct recruitment seats at the Constable level in the BSF have been reserved for former Agniveers. The government has taken this decision for the Agniveers serving under the Agnipath scheme. This is considered a crucial step towards ensuring a permanent and secure career for them. This is being seen as a major announcement by the central government before the new year.

Five-fold Increase in Quota
According to a Times of India report, the quota for Agniveers in BSF Constable recruitment has been increased fivefold. A 10 per cent reservation was initially proposed for former Agniveers, but this has been amended. It has been directly increased from 10 per cent to 5 per cent.
This clearly means that half of the Constable posts in the BSF will be reserved for Agniveers. Only those Agniveers who have completed four years of service will be able to benefit from this reservation. This will be an excellent employment opportunity for former Agniveers after their retirement. Age relaxation has also been provided. The opposition has also been demanding for a long time that the government take steps to secure the future of Agniveers.

Age Relaxation Provided
Under the new recruitment system, the age limit for general candidates is 18 to 23 years. Special age relaxation has been given to former Agniveers. Former Agniveers from the first batch will get a maximum age relaxation of 5 years, and those from subsequent batches will get a 3-year age relaxation. This will also significantly reduce the difficulties in recruitment for young people who have completed their Agniveer service. Reservation also decided for these categories.
According to the notification from the Union Home Ministry, 50 per cent of the seats in the BSF constable recruitment are reserved for former Agniveers, while 1 per cent are reserved for ex-servicemen. In addition, up toper centent of the seats will be reserved for the absorption of BSF combatized constables (tradesmen).
