Indian Railways: Good news for railway passengers. To address the growing number of passengers on trains, the railway administration has decided to attach extra coaches to several trains for the benefit of passengers. This temporary measure will be in place from July 1 to July 31, 2026, during which 40 additional coaches will be added to 17 train pairs. This will offer more seating options to passengers and alleviate the strain on the waiting list.

Anurag Tripathi, the Divisional Railway Manager of the Jodhpur Division of the North Western Railway, mentioned that the additional coaches will include different classes such as AC, sleeper, and general compartments. Here is a breakdown of the additional coaches being added to various trains:

Indian Railways

– 22977/22978 Jaipur–Jodhpur–Jaipur Intercity Superfast – 1 First cum Second AC and 1 AC Three Tier coach.
– 14801/14802 Jodhpur–Indore–Jodhpur Express – 2 Sleeper and 3 General coaches.
– 12465/12466 Indore–Bhagat Ki Kothi–Indore Ranthambore Superfast – 2 Sleeper & 3 General coaches.
– 14853/14854, 14863/14864 & 14865/14866 Jodhpur–Varanasi–Jodhpur Marudhar Express – 1 AC 3 Tier coach each.

The railway administration believes that this addition of coaches will enhance seat availability on long-distance trains, alleviate waiting list pressures, and offer passengers a more comfortable and convenient journey. This initiative will also assist in managing the increased crowds typically seen during festivals and holidays.

 

Railway Rule Change

Meanwhile Indian Railways is embarking on a historic initiative to enhance passenger travel comfort. Starting in August, the Railways’ nearly 40-year-old Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will undergo a complete overhaul. This outdated system, which began in 1986, will be replaced by new, modern technology. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav recently reviewed the progress of this significant digital initiative at Rail Bhavan. He has given strict instructions to officials to ensure that passengers do not face any difficulties in booking tickets during this major transformation.

This new railway system , a major step towards Digital India, has been designed to meet the needs of today’s modern times. Currently, approximately 88% of Indian rail passengers prefer to book tickets online from home rather than visiting railway station counters. The old system faced several technical limitations in handling this heavy load. The new reservation system will be faster than ever, eliminating the problem of server downtime during peak hours or festivals.
