When were tariffs imposed on India?

Donald Trump, who took office for the second time in the United States, imposed a massive 25per centt tariff on India on August 1, 2025. Then, on August 27, 2025, the Trump administration announced an additional per centent secondary tariff on India for purchasing oil from Russia.

This was added on top of the already existing percentage reciprocal tariff. The combined cost of both tariffs doubled the import cost of many Indian products into the United States. US President Donald Trump argued that India’s purchase of oil from Russia was providing Moscow with financial support in the Ukraine war.
