Sunetra Pawar Takes Oath as Deputy CM with Tears in Her Eyes, Devendra Fadnavis Also Present

New Delhi: Following the death of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, his wife, Sunetra Pawar, took the oath of office as Deputy Chief Minister today. She has become the first woman Deputy Chief Minister in the history of Maharashtra.

The Governor administered the oath of office and secrecy at the Mumbai Lok Bhavan. Earlier on Saturday, a meeting of the NCP legislative party was held, in which Sunetra Pawar was unanimously elected as the leader.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and many other senior leaders and ministers were present at the oath-taking ceremony.

The grief of losing her husband was clearly visible on Sunetra Pawar’s face. Ajit Pawar had died in a plane crash on January 26th.

This incident had caused outrage not only in Maharashtra but across the country. Since his funeral, there had been intense speculation about Sunetra Pawar being appointed as Deputy Chief Minister.

Before the oath-taking ceremony, Sunetra Pawar resigned from her Rajya Sabha seat. According to sources, her elder son, Parth Pawar, may take her place in the Rajya Sabha.
