The fire erupted suddenly on Tuesday evening. Panic spread among the people as the flames quickly engulfed the area. Cash worth ₹2 lakh kept in two tents was also destroyed in the fire. All household belongings, including the cash, were lost.

Bharat Shankar Shukla, a resident of Garapur Tharwai, had set up a camp in Sector 5, Kali Marg, under the name of Ram Naam and Manas Prachar Sangh, at Namayan Shukla Dham. On Tuesday evening, Bharat Shankar Shukla was sitting outside the camp warming himself by a fire with other people. His wife, Santosh Shukla, 58, was inside the tent.
