New Delhi: If you live in Delhi NCR, have 10 year old diesel and 15 year old petrol vehicles, then this news will prove to be very useful for you. The Supreme Court has given a big relief to the common people. The order banning 10 year old diesel and 15 year old petrol vehicles in Delhi NCR has been put on hold.
The Supreme Court gave this order while hearing the petition of the Delhi government, which sought reconsideration of the 2018 order banning old vehicles in the national area. The case was heard by a bench of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, Justice Vinod K Chandran and Justice NV Anjaria. The Supreme Court, while hearing, has issued an order in the interest of the common people.
Notice issued to Quality Management Commission
The Supreme Court, while hearing the case, has issued a notice to the Air Quality Management Commission on the petition of the Delhi government challenging the ban on 10 year old diesel and 15 year old petrol vehicles in the National Capital Region and directed it to respond within 4 weeks. The court said in its interim order that during this period no punitive action will be taken against 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles and their owners.
Along with this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, on behalf of the Delhi government, argued before the court that the matter needs to be considered. In the year 2018, the Supreme Court had banned 10-year-old petrol and 15-year-old petrol vehicles to control pollution.
What is the argument of the Delhi government
The Supreme Court had argued in the petition filed by the Delhi government that this policy is causing harm to the common people who use their vehicles sparingly. At the same time, when the argument of the Solicitor General was over, the court said that how can we take any decision without hearing the other side. However, the court decided to issue a notice to the Air Quality Management Commission to consider the petition of the Delhi government.
