India captain Rohit Sharma has supported the future of ODI cricket at a time when T20 cricket is becoming more popular. In a podcast with former Australia captain Michael Clarke, Rohit spoke about the challenges his team faced during the ICC Champions Trophy.
While talking on the Beyond23 Cricket podcast, Rohit said that even though T20 cricket is growing fast, ODI cricket is still an important format. He also shared that he feels a deep connection with the 50-over format, as it has been a big part of his journey since the early days of his cricket career.
ODI Cricket is a Different Challenge
Rohit Sharma said, “I know many questions are being asked about ODI cricket. People wonder whether it is still a sustainable format or not. But the truth is, we all grew up watching the 50-over World Cup. When we played the ICC Champions Trophy, the matches were very exciting. I agree the format feels long, especially now that people watch a lot of T20 cricket. But 50-over cricket has its own challenges.”

It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma scored 180 runs in five matches during India’s Champions Trophy 2025 victory. His innings of 76 runs from 83 balls against New Zealand in the final played a key role in India lifting the trophy. Rohit has always been one of India’s most reliable and successful batsmen in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma has scored 11,138 runs in 273 ODI matches. This number shows his consistency and the huge impact he has had in the 50-over format. He also performed well during India’s 2023 ODI World Cup journey and impressed everyone with his strong batting.
IPL 2025: Rohit Struggling with Poor Form
At present, Rohit is playing for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. However, his form has not been great this year. So far, he has scored only 56 runs in five matches, with an average of 11.20. Fans are hoping he will return to form soon and start scoring big runs again.
